History

Train carriages at Moorooduc Antiques & Old Wares in 1990.

Book Browser began as a small space within Moorooduc Antiques & Old Wares early-1984, by the late mother of the brothers who now run Book Browser. It slowly grew as demand and interest in a bookshop became more prominent.

Book Browser at Moorooduc Antiques & Old Wares had over 20,000 books which occupied two "red rattler" Victorian Railway carriages, a W-class tram which served as the office and a semi-portable shed. Book Browser was in the Moorooduc Antiques from 1984 through to 1993 when the owners of the Moorooduc Antiques & Old Wares business were presented with an opportunity to purchase the Tyabb Packing House, an old coolstore in Tyabb.

In late 1993 Book Browser along with most of the dealers at Moorooduc made the move to Tyabb. This was no small feat with over 20,000 books to pack up and move to Tyabb, and totalled over 600 boxes of books packed up and moved.

Moving to Tyabb afforded the business a lot more logically laid out space than had been available at Moorooduc. Book Browser covers the last chamber at the back of Tyabb Packing House Antiques which leads to the café plus all of the corridor space between the exterior and main chambers along the right hand side of the building (its east side).

Book Browser covers every subject of books, along with sheet music and we have (some) 78 RPM records.
